| What
is RSS
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is
a lightweight XML format designed for sharing headlines and other Web
content. It may stand for Really Simple Syndication, Rich Site Summary, RDF
Site Summary, or a variation on one of those. None of that matters to you
anyhow, for you it means that you can subscribe once to a site's feed and
get news, new articles or offers or anything new that the site has to
offer right on your desktop without searching for it all the time. For
example you want to know what new destinations and resorts have been added
at our sites www.AroundDelhi.com,
www.Shimla-Resorts.com and www.Mussoorie-Hotels.com
, you can subscribe to our RSS feeds and we will keep you abreast of all
this and much more.
RSS is better than email
RSS feeds are a new
discovery and said to be better than email, as it can not be forced upon
you, you have to subscribe to it to get it. No chance of spam or lost
email or an important mail going to your bulk folder and getting lost.
How do you identify and
read a RSS feed
If you view a RSS feed in
most browsers, you’ll see the raw XML,
which is roughly human-readable, but intended for computer programs. So to
read RSS feeds you need an RSS reader which also helps in keeping track of
new incoming feeds from the websites you are subscribed to. You can recognize
an RSS feed by these signs also called chiclets - ,
,
and so on.
Various Feed readers available for
free are
• Bloglines
• AmphetaDesk
• Pluck
• NewsGator
• NetNewsWire
• FeedDemon
• FeedReader
How do you subscribe a RSS
feed
In a feed reader or browsers
like FIrefox, Opera etc. you can add the url of the RSS feed or click on
the feed signs as shown above or as directed by the feed publisher.
